Philippine Christmas

Philippines is recognized for various "Fiestas" and having the longest Christmas time celebrations. We Filipinos are very proud to claim that our Christmas celebration is one of the longest and merriest in the world. Philippine Christmas starts officially on December 16 with attendance at the first of nine pre-dawn or early morning masses and goes on until the first Sunday of January, Feast of the Three Kings, the official end of the season. Since the Philippines is the only Asian country where Christians dominate most of the population. Majority of Filipinos are Roman Catholic which makes Christmas as one of the most important and revered holiday for most us. Christmas is a time for family, for sharing, for giving, and a time for food, fun, and friendship.

According to Ed Lapiz who wrote "Why The Filipino Is Special" The Filipino Christmas is not confined to December 25th; it somehow begins months before December and extends up to the first days of January. To most Filipinos, Christmas is one of the most anticipated celebrations or fiesta of the year. The cool climate during December which usually adds a good feeling, the abundance and beauty of its flowers, adorable landscape, its multitude of very delicious culinary delights, and above all its warm-hearted people with their true devotion to family and faith all contribute to a holiday celebrated in the true Philippines fiesta tradition.

I hope that everyone will not forget what we are really celebrating when Christmas comes... Its not about the good food, gifts or the long vacation but about the birth of our savior Jesus. Let us not forget and be thankful for all the blessings that we received... Merry Christmas everyone ^_^
